Debbie McCulley
"You look like one of your paintings!" is a comment Debbie McCulley hears often. Her use of vibrant color and whimsical imagery is a reflection of her and her outlook on life. "I choose to see the happy side of life and create something that makes people laugh, smile or think about the world in a different way". Her world of art invites us into her lighthearted perspective of life, mirroring our lives through frogs in martinis, birds morphing into wine or simply deriving pleasure and happiness with her powerful palette of color.
McCulley was born a in Missoula, Montana; but feels like she is from Spokane, moving with her family to Spokane, Washington at the age of 13 in 1973. Debbie has always dabbled in art but it wasn't until she took art classes at Spokane Art School beginning in 1990 that she decided to take her talent seriously. She gained invaluable knowledge from the instructors there and was encouraged to pursue her art career.
Debbie's art has been exhibited in several art fairs including Art On The Green in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho where her art was chosen as the winning submission for the poster contests for the 2016 and 2018 festivals.
Her work was chosen to be on Rosauer's Grocery Stores reusable shopping bags in 2015. You can see her public art on a utility box downtown Spokane, one in Liberty Lake and six utility boxes in downtown Coeur d 'Alene, Idaho!
Debbie's newest series is "Down the Rabbit Hole" based on Alice in Wonderland. She also added to her party frog series with frogs frolicking in various cocktails!
