Sheila Evans
www.sheilaevans.net

Sheila Evans has painted in pastel for twenty five years, and now divides her time between pastel and oil painting. Her work has been featured in Pastel Journal and Pratique des Arts Magazines. Recently she received a commission from Providence Medical Center in Everett for a large scale oil painting, and she was invited to exhibit at the Salon International of Pastels in Saint Aulaye, Dordogne, in the southwest region of France. Her work has earned numerous honors and awards. Sheila holds signature membership with the Pastel Society of America as well as the Northwest Pastel Society. She earned a bachelor's degree in fine art from Gonzaga University in 1988.

Inspired by nature and light, Sheila's paintings convey a sense of calm, peace and balance in a blend of realism and abstraction. Her latest work frequently includes themes of transformation and flight, exploring nature's exchange of energy and life as an immediate and joyful experience. Sheila's pastels are done on archival cardstock with a sanded texture for maximum vibrancy and longevity. Her oils are painted on stretched canvas, canvas-wrapped masonite panels or simple, gessoed masonite panels. Iridescent effects emerge as she builds layer upon layer of pastel or paint, alternating cool and warm tones. Her works are all original, one-of-a-kind pastel and oil paintings - never reproductions of any kind.

"Sheila Evans's work is beautiful, lyrical and sensitive. She draws like a demon and her subtle, intuitive sense of color makes me think of Turner or Constable - or the hues you hear in a Yo-Yo Ma cello solo." - Ben Mitchell, Senior Curator of Art, Northwest Museum of Art and Culture
